Ms. Burkey

My name is Julie Burkey, I moved to Congress, AZ from Phoenix, AZ in 2005 with my husband and three boys ages 10, 7 and 5. I was blessed with being able to have 7 years as a stay-at-home mom with my boys. I loved volunteering at my childrens’ school, but they had major problems finding substitutes. After subbing a few times, I was hired as a paraprofessional and worked one-on-one with the little kids helping them learn to read. I learned a great deal about myself during this time from some of the best people in the business about how we learn to read. I decided to join the teaching profession; I earned my M.Ed. from University of Phoenix in May 2007. My Bachelor of Science degrees are in marketing and psychology from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. After college I managed a restaurant, a travel agency, and a call center and then moved to Phoenix in 1994 to work with America West Airlines in their call center and the marketing department.
