WHS Student Council Course Description
Student Council (n) – a group of officers, classroom representatives, committees, and advisors who work together to promote school spirit, make important leadership decisions, and provide special events and projects for the school community
Elective Credit
Students will earn 1 elective credit upon successful completion of student government. To earn credit students must fulfill requirements in 3 areas. (Honors credit pending)
Leadership (30%) - Students are expected to prepare agendas, hold meetings, vote on legislation and enact passed legislation as well as completing leadership related assignments to earn leadership points.
Participation (50%) – The participation grade is determined by following the code of ethics and completing service hours. StudeFebruary 11, 2009rvice hours can be earned on and off campus as long as the services provided are for the benefit of the school or community. (Examples include but are not limited to set up and break down for dances and assemblies, lunch time activities, construction and decoration taking place outside of class, working concessions, tutoring, volunteering at a local event, and charity work.)
Final Exam (20%) – Students will complete a written final exam based on pre-determined student government topics. The final exam can be replaced by a committee assignment. Each student will be assigned a committee that will fulfill one culminating project per year.
Participants
Students currently enrolled at WHS who have completed the application and election process successfully and continue to uphold the standards agreed upon by student council and approved by the sponsor and administration.
Participants are divided into 2 divisions, class leaders and student body. Class leaders will be selected for grades 9 through 12. Each grade will have one president, one vice president, one secretary, one treasurer and two representatives. The student body will follow the same format and have to have a minimum of one year experience with WHS student council.
